Review by hotel critic
If you're hunting for a balance of value and comfort in Rio, Casa Tuxi could be a contender. Nestled in Botafogo, this spot comes with a lovely mix of shabby chic decor and a genuinely welcoming staff - big shoutout to Bruno, whose kindness really stood out. The rooms are clean and feature air conditioning, which is a must in the Rio heat. It's great to retreat to a cool space after exploring the nearby restaurants, shops, and, of course, beaches! Breakfast was enjoyable, with a decent spread of fruits, bread, and hearty meats and cheeses; the coffee was a highlight for sure. I experienced some hiccups. The place felt a bit crowded and dusty at times. I even had a situation where my son had trouble with the smell of bleach after they over-treated the pool, which was concerning and not properly communicated by the management. In short, while the atmosphere and amenities are appealing, just weigh the cost with some of these minor drawbacks. It might be worth considering if you're after a comfortable base without breaking the bank during your Rio adventure.
